Superintendent Dr. Lawrence recently attended the Illinois Association of School Boards South Cook Division Meeting! The session was focused on informative and engaging talks around equity in our schools and communities. We’re excited to have these conversations happening to move our school districts forward.

We love seeing community service and connections happening within our schools! Brooks Middle School National Junior Honor Society students recently read books to younger students at Bryant Elementary School. Way to go!

We’re continuing to share the wonderful events our students held during Black History Month! Holmes Elementary School students performed songs, dances and special acts in honor of Black Americans in front of a large audience of staff and family members.

Third and fourth graders at Maya Angelou Elementary School were introduced to the chapter book reader "Peter Parkerzak" written by Black author Angel Tate. Following their reading discussion sessions, she even visited the school in February! This event was a wonderful learning experience for the students who had the opportunity to participate in real-time story building and a question and answer session with the author.

As a reminder, there is no school for students on Thursday, March 21 for Parent Teacher Conferences, and there is no school for students on Friday, March 22 for a Staff Institute Day. Enjoy the extended weekend!

Riley Early Childhood students with perfect attendance last month earned a pizza party celebration! It is so important for all students to be present to learn.

Bryant Elementary School 3rd-5th graders participated in a STEM Fair! It was amazing to see the great enthusiasm, awesome experiments and excellent presentations. Way to go, students!

Last month, our youngest learners took part in Black History Month! The Riley Early Childhood Center students hosted their own program for their families singing songs or performing dances representing African American culture.

Tomorrow, Friday, March 15 is a School Improvement Day! Students will be released at 12:30 p.m.

In honor of Black History Month in February, Whittier Elementary Students presented The Living Wax Museum! Students learned about, dressed up as and created presentations in honor of famous Black Americans. All students from kindergarten through 5th grade participated!

Last month, Whittier Elementary School hosted their Family Sweetheart Dance! All family members were welcome to attend and everyone enjoyed their time together with family and friends!

Congratulations to the Angelou boys basketball team - they are once again champions! The team includes students from grades three through five and have been undefeated since 2022. A huge shout out goes to the team coaches Ms. Emma Beans and Mr. Claude Davis!

Superintendent Dr. Lawrence is proud to partner with State Representative, and Harvey alum, Will Davis to advocate for all of South Suburban Cook County! It takes a village to raise our students and a concerted effort bringing together home, school and the community.

When students in Mrs. Lemon’s 2nd grade class turn in each of their homework assignments for an entire quarter, they are awarded with a pizza party! Congrats to Mrs. Lemon's 2nd Quarter Homework Heroes at Holmes Elementary School!

Last week was our District Math Bowl and there was some fierce competition. Congratulations to the dedicated math coaches and each of the competitors! Last month, the Harvey Educational Foundation held their Annual Gala! This special event celebrates individuals who have supported the school district and the Harvey community while raising funds for educational grants awarded to Harvey School District 152 educators. Each year, honoree nominations are requested from staff members and the selections are made by the Foundation board members. Last week, Harvey School District 152 hosted the annual district-wide Black History Month event honoring the past and inspiring the future.
