Harvey School District 152 is committed to providing our students with a positive learning experience to prepare them for the 21st Century. Our curriculum emphasizes life and career skills; learning and innovation skills; information, media and technology skills, as well as cognitive and social skills that will enable them to deal with complex challenges and succeed in the 21st century. Our curriculum also incorporates state of the art technology tools and instruction to support the learning process and meet the unique learning styles of all students. Through technology investment we are developing new programs that support teaching and learning and connecting with students in ways that are more meaningful and familiar to them.

The Technology Department serves as an extension to the district’s instructional program that is responsible for providing effective and timely technology support and assistance to staff and students. It is the goal of the department to provide innovative, 21st century digital resources that enhance the deliverance of curriculum and instruction to students. This is made possible through the effective oversight of instructional and information technology systems, network administration, communications, and user support services.

As a district, Harvey School District 152 is committed to an educational program that recognizes the importance of technology in our society. Every one of our classrooms at District 152 is digitally equipped to meet the needs of the 21st century learner, offering SMART Boards, Chromebooks, computers, and a wide-variety of Digital Learning Platforms centered around increasing student collaboration and engagement. Each of our buildings is also equipped with a computer lab and a Learning Resource Center for student and teacher access. Our Middle School is equipped with a state-of-the-art STEM and Communication Media Arts labs and a broadcast studio. We also recently installed new STEM labs at all four of our Elementary Schools and we now proudly provide all students in the district with a cutting-edge, hands-on Technology curriculum.

The Department of Teaching and Learning is committed to providing exceptional technology services to students, staff, administration, parents, and the community-at-large.

Department Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum aligned to Illinois Learning Standards.

  • Design, implement and evaluate research-based programs.

  • Oversee instruction-related services and work collaboratively with staff members to support student learning.

  • Coordinate the efficient operation of local and state testing.

  • Analyze student learning data as a critical component of instructional decision making.

  • Guide principals and staff in creating, implementing, and sustaining high quality school improvement plans.

  • Coordinate Summer Enrichment and After School Tutorial programs.

  • Provide staff with ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance their practice.

  • Integrate 21st century technology tools and resources into the curriculum

  • Manage district-wide new teacher induction and mentoring program.

  • Manage Federal and State programs, including Title I, Title II, ELL and Pre-K for All

Harvey District 152 is excited to share our partnership with the Chicago Arts Partnership in Education (CAPE) as we apply for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) grant. This grant aims to support communities in creating or enhancing community learning centers that provide academic enrichment, helping students achieve state academic standards.

Professional Development Plan

Harvey School District 152 is committed to reaching high standards and providing well rounded educational opportunities for students to acquire the necessary skills to successfully engage in the 21st century. Achieving this goal requires the combined efforts of the School Board, Administrative Team, Teachers and Support Staff Members. To raise all students’ achievement, we need quality teachers in every classroom and strong leadership in every school. Thus, it is imperative that we invest in appropriate staff development initiatives designed to strengthen the professional capacity of our staff.

Our professional development initiatives serve as the foundation for providing support for our staff to ensure a quality education for every child. This year staff members will be provided with several workshops and training opportunities designed to foster increased student achievement and improved instructional strategies. This year’s professional development efforts will focus on instructional technology, data analysis, teacher evaluation, IAR readiness, and improving instruction.

Teacher Evaluation Plan

The Teacher Evaluation Plan is designed to identify teachers' strengths and areas of needed improvement to determine effective professional development, assistance, and support. The plan will help to determine whether a teacher is meeting performance expectations in the classroom and student growth expectations. In addition, the plan will provide accountability to retain effective teachers and assist in identifying teacher leaders.
