"The freedom bell is still ringing." Superintendent Dr. Lawrence celebrated the life and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at the event at South Suburban College in South Holland. We’re proud to see our community unite to celebrate, honor and move forward together.

In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, our buildings will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15.

The second quarter ends next week on Friday, January 19! Students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Great work so far students, let’s finish the school year strong in the second semester!

Lawrence II has a total of 32 years of educational experience. He has served in numerous capacities including elementary and middle school teacher, dean of students, assistant principal, elementary and high school principal, regional superintendent of schools and superintendent of schools. NFINITE Hands and Alderwoman Colby Chapman are hosting their annual Joy of Giving Toy Drive tomorrow! Join us from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brooks Middle School. We hope to see you there!

Join us tomorrow night to cheer on our staff members in the Toy Drive Charity Basketball Game against Harvey City employees! Admission is $5 or a new unopened toy. All proceeds and toys will be donated to the students of our district at Brooks Middle School.

Harvey Park District is hosting a Lunch-N-Fun with Santa event this Saturday, Dec. 9! Join the fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Santa’s Village (14821 Broadway Ave.) Be sure to register in advance by calling 708-331-3857.

Angelou Elementary School students held one of their favorite Thanksgiving traditions before the holiday break: a parade of balloons! Teachers read the book “Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade” and students learned about how the giant balloons were created for the world famous parade. Students designed their own balloon floats and paraded for our families!
